Over the last 30 years, the number of inline skaters has exploded around the world. Each year millions take to the streets, skate paths, local parks, etc.,all over the world to participate in one of the fasted growing recreational activities. To foster the growth of inline skating as a safe and fun activity, the Inline Certification Program (ICP) was originally formed.
Since 1991, the ICP has been devoted to the development of professional
inline skating instructors so that skaters around the world can have
access to top quality instruction and the best experience possible on a
pair of inline skates! The ICP is a program which trains and certifies
inline skaters to be instructors. The program provides a methodology for
teaching inline skating to skaters of all levels through a structured
and progressive lesson plan, and with a sound understanding of the
technical skills involved. Besides being an education standard, it also
provides continual development for certified instructors, opening many
opportunities for a career in inline skating.
Each year, the ICP visits test sites in countries all over the
world and conducts local clinics for skaters that endeavor to become
Certified Instructors. Clinics are conducted by ICP Examiners who have
demonstrated superior ability as both skaters and instructors. Already
thousands around the world have become certified through the ICP.
All educational programs of the ICP are managed and administered by
individual examiners throughout the world that work together regionally
and report directly to the ICP International office. This structure
promotes networking between all international inline educational
programs and allows for the sharing of resources and lays the foundation
for a unique skater’s organization.
Most recently, the ICP and the Skate Instructors Association (Skate IA) have begun to work closely to combine efforts and resources to better facilitate skating education world-wide.
Skate IA, which operates primarily out of the US and Canada,
teaches and certifies skaters how to teach. It offers programs in-person
and online and an annual camp for the general skating public called Camp Skate IA.
Skate IA is a membership organization providing; insurance, networking
opportunities, marketing advice, continuing education and resources to
our skate instructors members.
Through the continuous development of the inline educator
(instructor, volunteer, coach), the ICP and Skate IA ensure that skaters
will be exposed to the safest, most effective skill building
methodology available. This continuity of instructional content and
technique will provide a consistent educational framework for inline
skating around the world.
